The Happening: The Yankees Rule Again!
It's a shame that the beautiful sport of baseball isn't that popular in our country. I've been telling anybody who'll listen that it's a wonderful game of skill and accuracy in which we Filipinos can excel in. Anyhow, in case you don't know (and probably could care less), the World Series ended today with the Yankees winning their 27th championship. That's a pretty big deal in these 'ere parts and yet another accolade for the team which has arguably the most iconic uniform in sports. Congratulations, Bronx Bombers!

The Brand: Urban Outfitters Shoes
Ever since I walked into my first Urban Outfitter store, I was in love. Never have I gone into a shop and not known exactly what to check out first. All the brands I liked were there. And the shoes, oh the shoes, they will be the end of me. Vans, Chucks, Sperrys, they were all lined up, but my greatest discovery were the house branded UO shoes.
The kicks were solid, but what really got me was the unfair price they were charging for 'em. Unfair on their part, of course, because the shoes were a goddamn steal! $20 for plimsolls? $25 for penny loafers? I mean, you gotta be kidding me right? Of course, there's a catch. The quality is probably suspect, but from the looks of things, these beautes are really hard to pass up. Next time I go stateside, I'm definitely copping these for some instant gratification!
Blue waxed canvas (love the sole!) and faux leather plimsolls
Sweet canvas slip-ons and a rugged suede desert boot
Mocs and a penny loafer both in tasty tan suede

The Guide: Keeping Your Collar Erect
One of my biggest pet peeves are flattened dress shirt collars. I just think it's another one of those why-did-you-even-bother moments because for me, the whole point of wearing a dress shirt is to exude authority. An upright collar plays a big part in that. A flimsy one? Well, that just says you're soft in places that matter most.
Sometimes, the mistake is in the fabric of the collar. In other cases, it may just be your manang's faulty ironing. More often than not, though, it's because you failed to invest in a dress shirt with holes for the wonderful invention known as collar stays. Puzzled? I'm sure you've seen them at one point or another. You just didn't know them by name.
Collar stays are the thin plastic strips you insert into hidden holes at the bottom of your collar to keep them bad boys standing up. Not to be cliche and all, but it really is one of those little things which make a big difference. Check it out: Two plastic strips = one erect collar = an effective dress shirt = a power statement. Not bad for something under 200 bucks, yeah?

Although we may be experiencing colder weather at night, one cannot deny the reality that it's still friggin' scorching from morning to afternoon. This damn heat probably explains why I noticed a high number of fellas in shorts when I went out last Saturday. One thing irks me though - the length of most shorts I saw that day.
Never mind that they were cargo, denim, or sometimes pleated, what I can't take was the amount of below-the-knee action that was going on. I realize that some may not be comfortable with shorter lengths but all I ask for is a movement to show our knee caps. It just looks more flattering in my estimation, and it's quite easy to do too.
All you really need to make it happen is to make sure to clean your knees before exposing them. You don't even have to buy new shorts, for crying out loud. If you're like me (who has a stash of these babies), you can opt to fold them up to give them a fresh new life. I fold mine until above 2 inches my knee cap, but you need not to. Stop wherever you want as long as it's above the knee, please. Just try it and you'll see that a few edits is all you need to say goodbye to the puruntong shorts look you've probably been rocking since the 90s.

The Item: CDG Tweed Blazer
I find it quite awkward when men try to dress up jeans with what clearly is a blazer from a suit. The problem with this approach is usually the fabric's too stiff, too business-y to be considered casual wear. What often makes it worse is the sizing, with sleeves that reach the knuckles and a tail that envelops your bum.
Though we all cannot possibly afford it, we should all learn from this lovely Commes Des Garcons shirt collection tweed blazer. The fabric is perfect with jeans and the subtle pops of orange and red make this piece all the more interesting. The cut's a winner too. Its sleeves slightly expose the wrists and its bottom, well, let's just say it lets them girlies appreciate yours.
